Quick tip

To reduce shadowing when scanning a part like a gasket or similar for profiling, put a black sheet of paper or card over the part in the scanner. When you scan, the shadows will simply become part of the black background.

Scan2CAD user Mike Pidgeon additionally suggests spray painting the part white. Great idea - thanks Mike!

This will give you a reversed image with a white part on a black background. In Scan2CAD, use Raster Effects > Negate to switch the image so you end up with a black part on a white background.

And finally ...

Last month, we wrote

"To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist, the glass is half empty. To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be."

Andrew Rees wrote in to say not so:

"To the engineer the glass is correctly sized with the appropriate safety margin."

Thanks Andrew!
